In Bandlaguda Jagir Municipal Corporation area, as the Lok Sabha elections approach, several BRS leaders and councillors are switching their loyalties to continue their political careers. A group of around a dozen BRS councillors, unhappy with the local BRS MLA Prakash Goud, met Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and pledged allegiance to the Congress party. Last month, rival BRS councillors successfully removed Mayor Burra Mahendar Goud through a no-confidence motion.

Mayor Mahender Goud tried to prevent the motion through legal means and even joined the Congress party in response, but the opposition BRS councillors managed to install their preferred candidate as mayor. Nine councillors, along with the Deputy Mayor, met the Chief Minister to discuss their decision. They plan to appoint Lata Prem Goud as the new Mayor pending approval from the district Collector.

Despite being close to MLA Prakash Goud in the past, the BRS councillors who joined the Congress felt ignored by him. While Prakash Goud met with party leaders to discuss supporting the BRS candidate in Chevella LS constituency, his influence over the party seems to be waning as divisions emerge.

The BRS councillors who switched to the Congress expressed their disappointment with Prakash Goud’s indecisiveness. They claimed that despite his intentions to join the Congress, they decided to make their own move when he hesitated.
