Hyderabad residents reported loud, explosion-like sounds and brief ground vibrations on 27 October 2026. People in several parts of the city said the noises began around 9:15 AM and continued until about 10:30 AM. Many rushed out of their homes in fear.
The sounds were reported in Uppal, Erragadda, Langar Houz and Keshavswamy Nagar. Residents of Rajendranagar, Upparpally, Attapur and nearby areas also reported the noises. Some locals said the ground shook for a few seconds.
The vibrations lasted about 5 to 10 seconds, according to residents. Windows rattled and household items shifted in some homes. No casualties and no significant structural damage were reported. Many people discussed on social media whether it was an earthquake or a blast somewhere.
Police from the Rajendranagar and Langar Houz stations responded and started investigating. They looked at possible causes such as quarry blasting, a gas leak and other non-explosive sources. No confirmed blast, explosive device or major seismic event was found.
Scientists at the National Geophysical Research Institute (NGRI) said the event was linked to localised “hydro seismicity”, not a tectonic earthquake. Rainwater seeping into the area’s granite bedrock can build pressure and cause minor underground fractures. These fractures release energy as loud booms and small tremors. The region has a history of similar micro-tremors.
Authorities urged the public to stay calm while the investigation continues. Speculation on social media, including claims about jets, has not been backed by official or mainstream reports.
