Hyderabad: The BJP has announced 5 BC candidates in its first list of Lok Sabha candidates for Telangana. Now, the Congress party is also planning to give at least 4 to 5 tickets to BC candidates for the upcoming elections.

Party sources reveal that Congress is considering giving a maximum number of seats to BC candidates this time. Discussions have been ongoing within the party, including during a recent meeting of the Pradesh Election Committee (PEC). The party is contemplating giving tickets to candidates from areas like Karimnagar, Bhongir, or Medak, in addition to Secunderabad and Zaheerabad.

During a meeting of the Pradesh Election Committee with the Screening committee at Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s residence, more than half of the names were cleared. There was a detailed discussion on selecting BC candidates for Lok Sabha polls. The meeting was attended by top leaders including AICC incharge Deepa Dasmunshi.

It is worth noting that in the lead up to the Assembly polls in 2023, the PCC had resolved to allot one third of seats to BCs. However, when it came to ticket allocation, the numbers fell short. Currently, there are only two BC MLAs as Ministers in Revanth Reddy’s Cabinet. The PCC leadership is trying to balance this by inviting turncoats into the party fold for the upcoming elections, which has caused some discontent among loyal party leaders.
