A fierce political battle over land ownership erupted in Telangana after Chief Minister Revanth Reddy delivered a speech in the Assembly on 16 September 2026. The Congress and Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) have spent three days exchanging accusations, presenting documents, conducting farmhouse visits, and demanding investigations into each other’s land holdings.
During a debate on Section 22-A prohibited lands, Revanth Reddy alleged that the KCR family and relatives hold approximately 439 to 440 acres across nine districts, 24 mandals and 31 villages. According to the Chief Minister, this exceeds the agricultural land ceiling limit of roughly 27 acres for a family unit. He provided a breakdown showing KCR and his wife holding around 67 acres in Siddipet, KTR’s family with about 123 acres, Kavitha’s family with 37 acres, Harish Rao’s family with 30 acres, and relatives Joginapally Santosh Kumar and Naveen Kumar with 79 acres and 101 acres respectively.
The Chief Minister separately claimed that KCR’s Erravelli farmhouse in Siddipet covers around 700 acres under family control, including 388 acres of government assigned land. He ordered a 30-day inquiry, issued notices to KCR, and directed recovery of government land for distribution to Dalits. Revanth Reddy described this as part of an alleged ₹1 lakh crore land loot during BRS rule, which he claimed was enabled by loopholes in the Dharani portal. Revenue teams began surveying the land around the Erravelli farmhouse on 17 September.
On 19 September, Congress MPs and MLCs inspected the Janwada farmhouse in Rangareddy district, which has long been linked to KTR. They alleged encroachment of a drain, construction without proper permissions inside GO 111 limits, and possible benami ownership through friend Pradeep Reddy, who claims ownership and says he only leased it to KTR. Tension escalated as BRS supporters gathered at the site, prompting police intervention. Congress teams have also visited sites linked to Harish Rao in Siddipet.
BRS responded swiftly with counter-allegations against the Revanth Reddy family. Harish Rao presented documents showing that Revanth Reddy’s family holds around 308 acres, including 175 acres in Kotra in Veldanda mandal, 79 acres in Kondareddipalle in Vangoor, and other high-value urban lands in Gopanpally and Nacharam listed in affidavits. He demanded a sitting Supreme Court or High Court judge inquire into assets of both families from birth, along with a white paper on 22-A additions after December 2023.
KTR challenged the Chief Minister to deposit ₹1 lakh crore for the poor, promising that the KCR family would transfer every inch of its land in return. Otherwise, he demanded Revanth stop the allegations and apologise. BRS pointed out inconsistencies, noting the Chief Minister had earlier spoken of a 1,000-acre farmhouse but later cited 67 acres in the House. The party stated most lands appear in election affidavits with taxes paid. BRS MLAs filed a privilege notice claiming Revanth misled the Assembly on the extent of assigned land inside the Erravelli farmhouse.
BRS revived earlier charges including the alleged allotment of approximately 5 acres worth ₹200 crore to a company linked to Revanth’s brother for ₹7 crore through Tesseract. They also alleged 22-A and Bhu Bharati misuse under Congress that has hurt genuine landowners. Harish Rao posted a video challenge stating that if no Dalit lands are found with KCR, Congress leaders should resign, and if they are found, BRS leaders will resign. He offered a judge-led probe into Dharani from the BRS period and Bhu Bharati from the Congress period.
Official surveys and notices around the Erravelli farmhouse are currently underway, with local cultivators including Dalits raising concerns about the notices. Both parties are circulating election affidavits, survey numbers and registration papers on social media. Congress frames the action as recovering looted Nizam and government land for the poor after the Telangana movement, while BRS characterises it as diversion from 22-A hardships, farmer issues and alleged Congress-era land dealings. The numbers remain contested, and no independent verification or court finding has settled the exact acreage or legality. The 30-day government inquiry and any judicial probe BRS is demanding will determine the next steps in this political confrontation.
