Hyderabad: Over the weekend, the Cyberabad Traffic Police carried out a special operation targeting drunk drivers, resulting in 340 arrests.
During this large-scale operation, police teams focused on identifying drunk drivers. Among those caught, 288 were riding two-wheelers, 12 were in three-wheelers, and 39 were driving four-wheelers. Police reported that 303 individuals had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Another 25 had BAC levels ranging from 201 mg/100 ml to 300 mg/100 ml, while 12 had extremely high levels between 301 mg/100 ml and 500 mg/100 ml. All offenders will appear in court.
The age group with the most offenders was 21 to 30 years, totaling 127 individuals. This was followed by 125 offenders aged 31 to 40, and 59 aged 41 to 50. A previous drive from August 4 to August 8 resulted in 329 drunk driving cases resolved in court. Of these, 298 individuals received fines, and 31 were jailed. Two received prison sentences of one and four days, 26 served two days, and one spent three days in jail. Additionally, 16 were required to perform social service as part of their punishment.
The Cyberabad Police emphasized the seriousness of driving under the influence. They warned that causing a fatal accident while drunk could lead to charges under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. This offense, known as Culpable Homicide Not Amounting to Murder, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a fine. The Cyberabad Traffic Police urged everyone to drive safely and responsibly to ensure road safety for all.
