Hyderabad: Over the weekend, the Cyberabad Traffic Police cracked down on drunk driving, booking 480 people across the city. This effort highlights their strict stance against driving under the influence.
The operation targeted all types of vehicles, including two-wheelers, three-wheelers, four-wheelers, and heavy vehicles, due to a rise in alcohol-related incidents. Of those caught, 371 were on two-wheelers, 19 on three-wheelers, 85 in cars, and five operated heavy vehicles.
Most offenders had Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) levels between 35 mg/100 ml and 200 mg/100 ml. Alarmingly, 38 individuals were between 201 mg/100 ml and 300 mg/100 ml, and 19 had levels over 301 mg/100 ml. The drive took place in key areas such as Miyapur, Jeedimetla, Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, and Gachibowli, with Miyapur having the most violations. Young adults aged 21 to 40 were the main offenders.
The Cyberabad Police warned that drunk driving causing fatal accidents will face tough penalties under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. This includes charges of culpable homicide with up to 10 years in prison and fines. Last week, 372 drunk driving cases resulted in fines, jail time, and social service penalties.
This weekend’s enforcement shows the Cyberabad Police’s commitment to improving road safety and preventing risky driving behaviors.
