Active mobility is important in cities like Hyderabad because it helps reduce traffic congestion, air pollution, and promotes the health and well-being of citizens. To reach a target of five lakh people in the city, the Hyderabad Cycling community is partnering with the State government for an awareness campaign on active mobility, which includes walking, running, cycling, or using public transportation.

This year, the Hyderabad Cycling Revolution is planning a four-month campaign to promote active mobility as a long-term transportation solution for Hyderabadis. Santhana Selvan, the Bicycle Mayor of Hyderabad, explains that this campaign, called Hyderabad Cycling Revolution 4.0, aims to bring cyclists together and pedal through various streets in the city. The campaign will start in January and continue for four months with the goal of reaching 50 lakh people.

The main focus of HCR 4.0 is to encourage behavioral change among people. The objective is for people to use active mobility for at least 2 out of 10 trips in a week. If the distance is only 2 km, they can walk or cycle, and if it’s more than 5 km, they can use public transportation. The target is to have at least 50 percent of Hyderabadis using public transportation by 2030.

During the campaign, the Hyderabad Cycling Revolution will work with the State government to improve public transport. This includes enhancing metro rail connectivity, increasing buses, and setting up bicycle parking at metro stations. The campaign will also visit educational institutions and heritage monuments to raise awareness among people.
