The Telangana State Drug Control Administration (DCA) seized allopathic medicine ‘Colinol-SPAS’ tablets from a medical shop in Nampally. This was because the medicine had misleading advertisements claiming it could treat disorders of menstrual flow, which goes against the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954.

The raids conducted on Tuesday and Wednesday by TSDCA officials found ‘Colinol-SPAS’ tablets manufactured and marketed by Vivimed Labs Ltd in Kashipur, Uttarakhand. The product label made a misleading claim by suggesting it can treat spasmodic dysmenorrhea and menstrual disorders.

Making misleading claims about medicines is punishable under the Drugs and Magic Remedies Act, 1954. Those found guilty may face imprisonment for up to six months, a fine, or both.
