Hyderabad is seeing a rise in rheumatoid arthritis cases, according to Dr. Liza Rajasekhar, a rheumatologist. She emphasized the importance of raising awareness about this condition.
On Sunday, Dr. Rajasekhar launched a patient support initiative at Novotel Hotel. This event was part of the South Zone Indian Rheumatology Association (SZIRICON) 2025 and organized by Dr. Vijaya Prasanna. Munugodu MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy was also present. Dr. Rajasekhar highlighted that early detection leads to better recovery, while delays in diagnosis can cause severe issues.
MLA Rajagopal Reddy encouraged patients not to lose hope after a diagnosis. He stressed the importance of maintaining a positive outlook, as solutions exist for many diseases. He noted that even conditions like cancer, once seen as deadly, are now treatable with modern medicine.
Reddy also called for support from the government and voluntary organizations to assist patients. He criticized insurance companies for causing problems and urged the government to discuss these matters with them.
During the event, patients shared their concerns with doctors, insurance representatives, and voluntary groups. The program also featured participation from several experts, including Dr. Chandrasekhar, President of the Indian Rheumatology Association, along with Dr. Raj Kiran, Dr. Rajendra Vara Prasad, Dr. Vinod Ravindran, and Dr. Pani Kumar.
