The Election Commission of India (ECI) took action against Nandyal Superintendent of Police Raghuveera Reddy, SOPO Ravindranath Reddy, and Inspector Raja Reddy for not following the Model Code of Conduct during a visit by actor Allu Arjun to YSRCP MLA candidate Silpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy’s residence.
The ECI instructed the Director General of Police (DGP) to start disciplinary proceedings and press charges against the officers. The rally, which drew thousands of Allu Arjun fans, sparked controversy because organizers did not get approval from the returning officer of the Assembly Constituency. Despite this, Allu Arjun was welcomed with a large car and motorcycle parade from the city outskirts, with police providing security for his visit to the YSRCP leader’s residence.
Allu Arjun’s visit and the lavish reception in Nandyal stirred controversy as TDP Chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu was also planning to visit around the same time. A case was registered at the Nandyal two-town police station against Allu Arjun and Silpa Ravichandra Kishore Reddy for violating the Model Code of Conduct while Section 144 and the 31-AP Act were in effect.
The complaint leading to these actions was filed by Tahasildar on special duty P Ramachandra Rao, who alleged that Allu Arjun did not obtain permission from the returning officer before organizing a large rally in Nandyal.
