Hyderabad — The Enforcement Directorate (ED), Hyderabad has taken decisive legal action in the high-profile gangster Nayeem land grabbing case by filing a Prosecution Complaint (PC) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002 before a Special Court in Rangareddy district.

The complaint names ten accused individuals, including Pasham Srinivas, Haseena Begum, Mohammed Thahera Begum, Mohammed Saleema Begum, Mohammed Abdul Saleem, Ahela Begum, Syed Nilofar, Firdous Anjum, Mohammed Arif, and Heena Kousar.

Details of the ED Investigation

According to the prosecution complaint filed on 21 January 2026, the ED has sought confiscation of 91 immovable properties allegedly obtained through force and intimidation under the influence of gangster Nayeemuddin — popularly known as Nayeem — and his associates. These properties, spread across several localities, were purportedly acquired by threatening property owners and coercing them into signing sale deeds under duress.

The ED’s probe was based on an FIR initially registered by the Telangana Police, as well as a reference from the Income Tax Department relating to alleged benami transactions and property dealings. The investigation found that Nayeem and his aides allegedly used threats, abductions, and coercion to force landowners to register properties in the names of his relatives and close associates.

Modus Operandi Behind the Acquisitions

According to the ED’s investigation, the accused identified valuable land parcels and then allegedly compelled the owners, or even their family members, to accompany them to sub-registrar offices. There, under fear and pressure, property sale deeds were executed in favour of Nayeem’s family members or close allies. Many owners received no compensation for the transfers, and in several instances were too afraid to seek help from authorities due to ongoing threats.

The ED’s prosecution complaint states that these 91 properties represent the proceeds of crime and are therefore subject to confiscation under PMLA provisions. Although many of these properties had already been attached by the IT Department under the Prohibition of Benami Property and Transaction Act, 1988, the ED has formally requested that they be confiscated by the Central Government as part of the ongoing legal process.

Background of the Gangster Nayeem Case

Gangster Nayeemuddin — known as Nayeem — was a notorious criminal figure wanted in multiple murder, extortion, and kidnapping cases. He was killed in a police encounter in August 2016, after years of law enforcement efforts and numerous registered cases against him and his network of associates. Over the years, special police investigation teams have probed his criminal syndicate’s activities, including allegations of police collusion and illegal land acquisitions.

The latest ED action reflects the continued focus of law enforcement agencies on dismantling organised crime networks and recovering illicitly acquired assets, even years after the principal accused’s death.
