Hyderabad: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has called actor Rana Daggubati for questioning about the alleged promotion of illegal online betting apps. He is expected to appear on August 11 after requesting more time. Initially, he was supposed to attend on July 23.
The ED started this investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) by filing an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR). This case mentions 29 people, including actors, TV personalities, YouTubers, and influencers. It stems from five FIRs filed in Panjagutta, Miyapur, Cyberabad, Suryapet, and Visakhapatnam, related to suspected breaches of the Public Gambling Act, 1867.
The agency is investigating whether film and TV stars promoted betting sites like Junglee Rummy, A23, JeetWin, Parimatch, and Lotus365 in exchange for large payments. Other well-known figures named in the report include actors Praneetha and Nidhi Agarwal, alongside media personalities such as Ananya Nagella, Siri Hanumanthu, Sreemukhi, Varshini Sounderajan, Vasanthi Krishnan, and Shoba Shetty.
The ED is looking into whether these endorsements were part of a larger plan to direct users to illegal betting platforms.
