A former Navy commander named Ashish Pathak was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for helping journalist Vivek Raghuvanshi get sensitive information about the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). The CBI had also arrested Raghuvanshi earlier that day for sharing the classified information with foreign intelligence agencies, including Pakistan.

According to a CBI official, Raghuvanshi collected details about DRDO defence projects, future Indian armed forces procurement, national security information, and India’s strategic and diplomatic talks with friendly countries. He then shared this information with foreign intelligence agencies.

The CBI registered the case on December 9, 2022, after receiving a complaint from DRDO.
