Family of zoo staffer in Hyderabad receives Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia payment

Following the death of animal keeper Mohd Shahbaz on Saturday, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (HoFF), Telangana, R M Dobriyal, along with Bahaurpura MLA Mohammed Moazam Khan, visited Shahbaz’s family on Sunday to offer their condolences. They also presented a cheque of Rs 5 lakh as ex-gratia from the zoo management.

The officials from Nehru Zoological Park, Hyderabad, also went to Shahbaz’s residence to pay their respects. Shahbaz had passed away after sustaining injuries in an elephant enclosure at the zoo.

During the visit, Dobriyal spoke with the family members and reassured them that all applicable benefits would be released as soon as possible. He also promised to provide a government job to one of the family members.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Shahbaz was near the elephant as part of his regular duties. The elephant charged towards him and injured him with its tusk. Shahbaz was immediately taken to a private hospital, but he was declared dead upon arrival.
