The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has registered criminal cases against nine individuals who illegally obtained sewer connections from Water Board pipelines. Acting on the instructions of Water Board MD Ashok Reddy, the Vigilance Department conducted a crackdown on unauthorized connections in the SR Nagar area. The accused residents had taken a total of 19 illegal sewer connections without obtaining proper permission from the authorities.
The illegal connections were discovered during GHMC new road construction works undertaken by the Water Board’s O&M Division No. 6 (SR Nagar) within the Tattikhana section jurisdiction. Taking advantage of the ongoing construction activities, residents of the colony reportedly installed the unauthorized sewer connections themselves. The Water Board Vigilance team identified these violations during routine inspections of the area.
Upon detecting the illegal connections, the Water Board Vigilance Department immediately removed all unauthorized sewer lines and initiated legal proceedings against the violators. The department has made it clear that such actions constitute a serious offense and will be dealt with strictly according to the law. The criminal cases have been filed against all 19 individuals who were found to have taken illegal connections from the municipal sewer system.
Water Board officials issued a stern warning to residents, stating that anyone who obtains illegal drinking water or sewage pipeline connections without official permission will face criminal prosecution. The authorities emphasized that unauthorized connections not only violate regulations but also compromise the integrity of the public sewerage system and can lead to contamination and infrastructure damage.
The Water Board has urged citizens to report any instances of illegal sewer or sewage connections to the Vigilance team. Information can be provided through the dedicated phone numbers 9989998100 and 9989987135. Officials have requested public cooperation in identifying unauthorized connections to ensure the proper functioning and maintenance of the city’s water and sewerage infrastructure.
