Koram Kanakaiah, a well-known Tribal leader, has been re-elected as the MLA of Yellandu in the recent elections. He previously served as a DCCB director and first became an MLA in 2014 with the Congress party. After joining the BRS party, he was defeated in the 2018 elections but then went on to become the ZP chairman of Kothagudem district. In the 2023 elections, he returned to the Congress party and won by a large margin.

Kanakaiah, who hails from the village of Koyagudem in Tekulapally mandal, has gained popularity for his work in the Agency area. He has been instrumental in the development of Yellandu, a coal town in the district, and has earned the support of the local community.
