The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has launched a comprehensive coordinated effort in partnership with the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) to tackle air pollution across the city. The initiative brings together multiple government departments and agencies to implement a systematic approach toward improving air quality through continuous monitoring, planned interventions, and sustained action. The program emphasizes that improving air quality is a shared responsibility requiring collaboration across all line departments with clearly defined roles to address pollution sources in a structured manner.

The coordinated action plan focuses on five key areas to combat air pollution in Hyderabad. These include hotspot-based assessment of air quality with targeted interventions, road dust control with stricter oversight of construction activities, reduction of vehicular emissions through enforcement and traffic management measures, monitoring of industrial emissions to ensure compliance with environmental norms, and regulation and scientific management of construction and demolition waste activities. Each department has been assigned specific responsibilities to ensure effective implementation of pollution control measures.

GHMC, working alongside all line departments, is strengthening inter-departmental coordination and regularly reviewing implementation progress. The civic body is adopting data-driven strategies to reduce pollution at source rather than relying on temporary or one-time measures. The emphasis remains on achieving sustained, long-term improvement in air quality through systematic interventions and continuous monitoring of pollution levels across different zones of the city.

Officials have stated that clean air is essential for public health, urban resilience, and Hyderabad’s sustainable future. The program aims to create a framework where all stakeholders work together to ensure that pollution control becomes an integral part of urban governance. The initiative aligns with national efforts under NCAP to improve air quality in cities across India through coordinated action and evidence-based interventions.
