Hyderabad Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar, IPS, has issued a formal notice to BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar, IPS (Retd), demanding evidence for his allegations against the Special Investigation Team (SIT) chief who is probing the phone tapping case. The notice requires Praveen Kumar to furnish complete and specific details within two days from the date of receipt.

The notice specifically calls upon Praveen Kumar to provide full details of the alleged seven criminal cases that he claimed were registered against the SIT Chief. According to police sources, Praveen Kumar made these allegations while addressing the media on Friday, publicly stating that the SIT chief is involved in criminal cases and demanding the constitution of another SIT to investigate him.

The Hyderabad City Police has termed Praveen Kumar’s remarks as defamatory, reckless, irresponsible, and misleading. The police statement emphasized that these serious allegations were made in the public domain without any supporting evidence or documentation to substantiate the claims against the investigating officer.

The notice issued by Commissioner Sajjanar warns of potential civil and criminal proceedings if the demanded details are not furnished within the stipulated timeframe. This action comes as part of the police department’s effort to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation and its officials from unsubstantiated allegations.

The phone tapping case has been under investigation by the SIT, and any allegations against the investigating officers are being taken seriously by the police department. The two-day deadline given to Praveen Kumar is intended to either substantiate his claims with concrete evidence or face legal consequences for making false allegations.

The police have made it clear that making unverified allegations against serving officers in public forums will not be tolerated, especially when such statements can undermine ongoing investigations and damage the reputation of law enforcement officials. The department awaits Praveen Kumar’s response with the requested evidence within the specified period.
