Hyderabad: The Telangana Cabinet has approved a series of decisions covering electric mobility, food security, agriculture, irrigation, industrial relocation and skill development. The decisions include a proposed ₹200 crore scheme to promote electric autos in Hyderabad, the rollout of smart ration cards, a ₹2,100 crore lift irrigation project and expansion of the Young India education and skills ecosystem.
The Cabinet decisions also include plans for the next Telangana Rising Summit, changes to the fine-paddy bonus, e-auction of surplus paddy and an extension of the deadline under the Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy (HILTP).
₹200 Crore Scheme to Promote Electric Autos in Hyderabad
The Cabinet has approved a ₹200 crore scheme aimed at converting Hyderabad’s auto-rickshaws to electric vehicles. Under the proposed scheme, eligible auto owners could receive a subsidy of up to ₹1.5 lakh per vehicle.
The move is aimed at accelerating the transition to electric three-wheelers while reducing emissions from conventional auto-rickshaws. The exact eligibility criteria and implementation guidelines are expected to be detailed separately by the government.
Smart Ration Cards to Be Distributed From August 15
The government has decided to begin distribution of Smart Ration Cards from August 15. The number of beneficiaries under the state’s food-security system has now reached around 3.42 crore people.
The smart-card initiative is expected to modernise beneficiary identification and improve the delivery of welfare services linked to the public distribution system.
Telangana Rising Summit 2.0 Planned for December
The state is preparing for the next edition of the Telangana Rising Summit. The second edition, referred to as Telangana Rising Summit 2.0, is planned for December 7, 8 and 9 under the theme “Invest Telangana”.
The summit is expected to serve as a platform for presenting Telangana’s investment opportunities and attracting domestic and international companies, while highlighting the state’s infrastructure, technology, manufacturing and emerging business sectors.
₹500 Fine-Paddy Bonus Restricted to Seven Varieties
The Cabinet has decided that the state’s ₹500 per quintal bonus for fine paddy will apply only to seven identified fine-paddy varieties.
The decision is intended to focus the incentive on specified fine-paddy varieties rather than applying the bonus uniformly across all paddy varieties. Farmers will need to follow the government’s prescribed variety and procurement conditions to qualify for the benefit.
17.54 Lakh MT of Surplus Paddy to Be E-Auctioned
The government has decided to e-auction approximately 17.54 lakh metric tonnes of surplus paddy. The reported base price for the auction has been fixed at ₹2,389 per quintal.
The e-auction is intended to facilitate the disposal of surplus stocks through a transparent bidding mechanism. The final sale price will depend on participation and bids received during the auction process.
ITIs, ATCs and Polytechnics to Come Under Young India Skills University
In a major change to the state’s skills ecosystem, the Cabinet has decided to bring Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Advanced Training Centres (ATCs) and Polytechnics under the Young India Skills University framework.
The move is aimed at creating closer coordination between technical education and industry requirements, with greater emphasis on practical training, employability and job-oriented skills.
Seven More Young India Integrated Residential Schools Approved
The Cabinet has approved seven additional Young India Integrated Residential Schools. With the latest approvals, the total number of such schools approved across Telangana has reached 86.
The integrated residential-school model is intended to provide students with modern educational infrastructure along with facilities for sports, technology and other activities within a residential campus environment.
HILTP Deadline Extended to October 31
The government has also extended the deadline for industries seeking to shift out of designated urban areas under the Hyderabad Industrial Land Transformation Policy (HILTP) to October 31.
The policy is aimed at facilitating the relocation of polluting industries from increasingly urbanised areas and enabling the transformation of industrial land as Hyderabad expands. The extension gives affected industries additional time to comply with the relocation requirements.
₹2,100 Crore for Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Irrigation Phase-II
The Cabinet has approved ₹2,100 crore for Phase-II of the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal lift irrigation project. The project is expected to benefit nearly one lakh acres in the region.
The irrigation project is aimed at improving water availability for agricultural areas in and around Makthal, Narayanpet and Kodangal, particularly in regions that depend heavily on irrigation infrastructure for cultivation.
Gudem Doddi Project Capacity Proposed to Increase
The Cabinet has also approved a proposal to significantly increase the capacity of the Gudem Doddi project. Its storage capacity is proposed to rise from around 1.19 TMC to 15 TMC.
The proposed expansion is expected to strengthen water-storage capacity and support irrigation and water-management requirements in the project area.
Focus on Welfare, Agriculture and Infrastructure
Taken together, the Cabinet decisions cover several major areas of Telangana’s development agenda, from urban electric mobility and welfare delivery to agriculture, irrigation, industrial transformation, residential education and employment-oriented skills.
The electric-auto programme and smart ration cards are expected to have a direct impact on urban residents and welfare beneficiaries, while the irrigation and agriculture-related decisions focus on farmers and rural areas. The Telangana Rising Summit and HILTP measures are aimed at strengthening investment and economic activity.
Several of the measures will require detailed government orders, eligibility criteria and implementation guidelines before the schemes and programmes are fully rolled out. Further departmental notifications are expected to provide details on the implementation of the Cabinet decisions.
