Hyderabad is taking steps to make its roads and footpaths more accessible. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has started removing encroachments to help both vehicles and pedestrians move more freely.
Recently, the GHMC cleared footpaths by removing illegal structures like sheds and kiosks that were causing traffic jams. These were taken down using JCB machines to ensure pathways are open for public use.
On Wednesday, Deputy Mayor Mothe Srilatha Shoban Reddy and GHMC officials inspected the Tarnaka Junction area. They found unauthorized stalls on the main road and had them demolished immediately.
The Deputy Mayor highlighted that these street vendors on Tarnaka X Road were creating problems for locals. Stalls on the roads were making it hard for people to walk, and some shopkeepers were also dumping waste, affecting the area’s cleanliness.
Officials, along with traffic police, worked to clear sheds and shops from both footpaths and parts of the road. However, some local vendors expressed concern about how these actions impact their livelihoods.
Deputy Mayor Reddy stressed the importance of taking firm action against such encroachments to maintain public convenience and cleanliness. She directed GHMC officials to act quickly on issues like illegal waste dumping and unauthorized shops.
A GHMC officer mentioned their ongoing efforts to clear roads and footpaths to improve traffic flow. The officer assured that similar operations will continue throughout the city to keep public areas well-maintained.
