Heavy rainfall in the upper areas has caused the Godavari River to swell dangerously. On Wednesday, officials issued a second flood alert. By 10 pm, the river’s water level was at 48 feet, increasing to 50.8 feet by Thursday morning.

Floodwaters have flooded main roads, causing traffic issues in many villages across different areas. In Bhadrachalam, water has reached the Kalyana Katta area, covering steps and electric poles in bathing zones. To protect the town, authorities have shut the sluices on the Godavari embankment to stop water from entering urban regions.

Sewage systems are overflowing, preventing water from draining out of the town. Officials are using pumps to remove the excess water. There are worries that the water level could rise further as more floodwaters move downstream from the upper regions.
