Hyderabad, August 12, 2025 — The Telangana government has issued precautionary directives in anticipation of the heavy rainfall forecast across the state. Due to the impact of a Low-Pressure Area (LPA), which is expected to bring torrential rains, schools within the GHMC area will operate for half-day on August 13 and 14.

Simultaneously, full-day school closures have been ordered in the following districts:

  • Warangal
  • Hanamkonda
  • Yadadri Bhuvanagiri
  • Mahabubabad
  • Jangaon

The LPA over the region has intensified the south-west monsoon currents, resulting in widespread rainfall activity from August 12 to 16. Originally forecast for August 14–17, the heavy rain window has been brought forward due to rapid weather developments. The Telangana Weatherman has issued a “flooding rainfall warning,” indicating that rainfall between 150–200 mm may occur in parts of South and East Telangana during August 12–13, while a similar impact is expected in West and Central regions on August 14–15  .

School Calendar Amid Heavy Rains

In light of the forecast, educational institutions under GHMC jurisdiction will run on shortened schedules, allowing students and staff to avoid travel during peak hours of expected heavy precipitation.

Conversely, in the listed districts, authorities have opted for holidays, prioritizing student safety in flood-prone zones.
