The Telangana High Court has ordered former MLA Ashannagari Jeevan Reddy, along with his family members, to face trial in a criminal case. The case was registered by the Chevella police for allegedly encroaching on 20.2 acres of land in Urlapally village, Chevella. The land belongs to Samu Damodar Reddy and falls under survey numbers 32, 35, 36, and 38.
Justice Lakshman, who was hearing the case, refused to cancel the proceedings mentioned in FIRs 175 and 190/2024. The judge stated that the petitioners must go through the trial process and cannot be granted relief under Section 482 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). He also referred to a Supreme Court judgment, explaining that since there is an alternative legal remedy under Section 438 of the CrPC, the petitioners should follow that route instead.
The court was hearing two criminal petitions filed by Jeevan Reddy, his wife, and their watchman. They had requested the court to dismiss the FIRs registered against them. However, the judge ruled that they should face trial as per legal procedure.
