Residents of Hyderabad experienced relief from the stifling humidity as heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, swept through various parts of the city on Thursday.
The rain caused significant challenges for motorists, who struggled to navigate through waterlogged streets. Manholes in several areas added to the inconvenience for both commuters and local residents. Traffic jams were reported at several city junctions due to water accumulation in different areas.
The rain initially affected regions like Rajendranagar, Golkonda, Tolichowki, Karwan, Mehdipatnam, Charminar, Aramghar, and Attapur, eventually spreading throughout the city. The downpour resulted in traffic delays and water logging in various parts of the city. In the west zone, traffic moved slowly from Nanakramguda to the Gachibowli junction on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) because of the heavy vehicle volume. Additionally, heavy traffic was reported at the IKEA junction from all directions.
Several areas in the city, including Uppal, L B Nagar, Nizampet, Lalaguda, Malakpet, Nampally, Begumpet, Mehdipatnam, Dilsukhnagar, and Saroornagar, experienced water logging. Roads in the Old City, such as Talabkatta, Tadbun, Yakutpura, Dhobi Ghat, Dabeerpura, Chaderghat, and Chanchalguda, were inundated, causing difficulties for motorists. Many vehicles parked in front of shops were submerged due to heavy water stagnation on the roads.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TGDPS), Patigadda in Secunderabad recorded the highest rainfall at 74.8 mm as of 8 PM. Bansilalpet in Musheerabad closely followed with 73 mm, while R C Puram had 68.5 mm, Musheerabad 67 mm, Kukatpally 64.8 mm, Khairtabad and Shaikpet 59 mm each, Gachibowli 55.8 mm, and Balanagar 55 mm.
Other areas receiving rain included Ramanthapur, LB Nagar, Kukatpally, Hitech City, Madhapur, Banjara Hills, Dilsukhnagar, Vanasthalipuram, Miyapur, Yousufguda, Jubilee Hills, and Nampally. Residents from Patancheru, Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Balanagar, Alwal, Jeedimetla, and other areas also reported heavy rain and shared videos of the storm on social media. Areas like Miyapur, Chandanagar, Lingampally, Moosapet, Hydernagar, KPHB, Bachupally, Gajularamaram, Nizampet, Cherlapally, Keesara, Neredmet, Jedimetla, Kondapur, and Ameerpet experienced significant rain and water logging.
In response, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation’s (GHMC) Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams worked to clear water stagnation in various parts of the city. They advised commuters to call 040-21111111 or 9000113667 for any rain-related issues and assistance.
