The Telangana Revenue and Disaster Management Department has issued directives to all district officials to remain on high alert as heavy rains are expected across the state starting from June 19. Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy has instructed officials to take all necessary preventive measures in advance to ensure that citizens do not face any difficulties during the rainy season.
The minister emphasized that assessing the impact of natural calamities beforehand and implementing protective measures is far more important than responding after disasters occur. He clarified that the disaster management machinery must be fully prepared at all levels, from the state headquarters down to the village level, to handle any emergencies that may arise during the monsoon season.
According to the weather department’s estimates, the southwest monsoon is rapidly spreading across Telangana and is expected to cover the entire state within the next 3 to 4 days. The rains are likely to intensify from June 19 and may continue for approximately one week. Officials have been directed to maintain continuous vigilance and monitor weather warnings closely during this period.
Following the guidance of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy reviewed the situation with officials on Monday and issued directives to keep all districts on high alert. The minister stated that the revenue and disaster management apparatus must remain fully vigilant throughout the rainy season to protect lives and property of the people.
The southwest monsoon entered South Telangana on June 8, covering Jogulamba Gadwal district first. It is currently progressing along the northern border over Hyderabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts. By June 14, the monsoon had affected all districts in South Telangana and many districts in Central Telangana, indicating steady progress across the state.
From June 1 to date, the state has recorded 49.2 mm of rainfall, which is approximately 10 percent below the normal average of 54.9 mm. Despite this deficit, the weather department has warned of intensifying rainfall in the coming days, necessitating heightened preparedness across all districts.
The minister instructed district collectors, revenue officials, and disaster management department staff to continuously review weather department warnings and maintain ongoing coordination. Officials have been directed to identify areas where rainfall intensity may increase in advance and implement necessary protective measures to prevent any loss of life or property.
Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy stated that protecting lives and property is the government’s primary goal. He made it clear that officials across all districts must work with unwavering vigilance until the end of the rainy season, taking proactive actions to prevent any hardships for the people under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
