The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) will organise a Nursery Mela at Necklace Road on Friday, August 1, starting from 2 pm. The event is part of the Telangana government’s Vana Mahotsavam 2026 programme, aimed at expanding the city’s green cover through active public participation. Every family attending the mela will receive five free saplings, which will include a mix of fruit-bearing, medicinal, and ornamental plants to encourage home gardening across the city.
The initiative is being spearheaded by HMDA’s Urban Forestry Wing in collaboration with city terrace gardeners under the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) initiative. The programme is designed to promote environmental awareness and encourage residents of Hyderabad to actively contribute to greening their surroundings. By distributing saplings free of cost, the authorities aim to make it easier for households to adopt sustainable gardening practices.
The Vana Mahotsavam 2026 is a flagship programme of the Telangana government that focuses on large-scale tree plantation drives across the state. The programme has been instrumental in increasing awareness about environmental conservation and the importance of maintaining green spaces in urban areas. The Nursery Mela at Necklace Road is expected to attract a large number of families who are keen to participate in the greening initiative.
The distribution of saplings includes varieties that serve multiple purposes, from providing fruits and medicinal benefits to enhancing the aesthetic appeal of homes. The event is open to all residents, and the organisers have encouraged maximum participation to make the initiative a success. The HMDA has urged citizens to take advantage of this opportunity and contribute to making Hyderabad a greener and more sustainable city.
