The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has taken special measures to ensure continuous water supply across the city for the next 48 hours ahead of Bakrid celebrations. Managing Director Ashok Reddy directed officials to implement emergency protocols to meet the increased demand during the festival season, which coincides with peak summer consumption. The directive comes as the city faces dual challenges of heightened water requirements and infrastructure disruptions caused by recent weather conditions.
The water board has activated round-the-clock operations at 48 tanker filling stations across Hyderabad to ensure adequate supply reaches all neighborhoods. Officials have deployed backup drivers on standby to maintain continuous tanker operations without interruption. Additional staff and resources have been mobilized to handle emergency situations and respond quickly to any supply gaps. The 24×7 tanker filling arrangement is designed to supplement regular pipeline supply and address areas facing temporary shortages.
Water supply disruptions have been reported in certain parts of the city due to power outages caused by recent storms affecting the Manjeera Phase 1 and Phase 2 water supply systems. Officials are actively working to restore normal operations in these systems while managing alternative supply arrangements through tankers. The storm-related electrical failures have impacted pumping stations, requiring coordinated efforts between the water board and electricity department to minimize service disruption.
The water board’s emergency measures reflect the increased demand typically seen during festival periods when households require additional water for cooking, cleaning, and religious observances. With summer already putting pressure on the city’s water infrastructure, the combination of seasonal peak demand and Bakrid preparations has prompted the preemptive deployment of extra resources. The HMWSSB has assured residents that all necessary steps have been taken to maintain adequate water supply throughout the festival period.
