Hyderabad: On December 24, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police VC Sajjanar carried out a drunk driving check in the city.
The operation took place at the Telangana Study Circle in Banjara Hills. Sajjanar personally observed the staff’s work and provided them with guidance.
He spoke with drivers caught under the influence, explaining the risks of drunk driving.
Earlier, on December 23, Sajjanar announced that a special crackdown on drunk driving would run from Wednesday through New Year’s Day.
He warned that rule breakers would face strict consequences. During a teleconference with officers, the Commissioner reviewed security plans for Christmas and New Year’s Day, emphasizing the importance of securing busy areas.
Drunk driving checks are planned for 100 locations on New Year’s Eve. Additional police from the seventh platoon will assist. Offenders will face a Rs 10,000 fine and up to six months in jail.
Driving licenses of those caught may be permanently revoked. Sajjanar also cautioned against racing and stunts.
To enhance safety, 15 SHE Teams will be stationed at party venues and other locations to protect women on New Year’s Eve.
