The police department shared a detailed alert on social media, cautioning residents about scammers who project themselves as wealthy individuals by renting expensive properties, flaunting branded items, and displaying a lavish lifestyle to gain trust before committing financial fraud.
According to the police advisory, these scammers typically rent gated community properties and luxury apartments, drive expensive cars, and wear branded clothes to create an impression of being millionaires. They often display photographs with VIP personalities and political figures on social media to convince people of their strong influence and credibility. The police emphasized that citizens should not be swayed by such outward appearances or flashy lifestyles.
The modus operandi of these fraudsters involves initially building trust by mingling with people in an extremely friendly manner. Once trust is established, they collect money from victims in the name of various schemes including expensive cars, furniture, luxury sarees, chit funds, real estate secret shares, and guaranteed returns. After collecting substantial amounts, these individuals flee, leaving victims in distress and financial chaos.
Hyderabad City Police have called for active public participation to counter such scams. Property owners have been specifically advised not to focus solely on high rental income but to collect proper identification documents including Aadhaar and PAN cards from tenants and conduct thorough tenant verification. The advisory stressed that no one should invest money based solely on trust without obtaining legal documents or written agreements.
Resident Welfare Associations have been urged to monitor newly arriving suspicious individuals in their colonies. The police warned residents against discussing bank details or financial secrets with people who are newly introduced in their communities. The department emphasized the importance of vigilance and community awareness in preventing such fraudulent activities.
The police have encouraged victims of such scams to come forward without fear or hesitation and file complaints. Citizens who spot suspicious individuals in their community or realize that a financial scam has occurred are advised to immediately provide information by dialing 112. The Hyderabad City Police reiterated that public cooperation is extremely crucial in combating the mind games employed by such scammers.
