The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has decided to convert part of a water body and its surrounding area into land for housing. This decision is surprising because building on water bodies and their buffer zones is usually not allowed.

Environmentalists are worried about this move, as it could harm nature and wildlife living near the water bodies. Some people believe politics may have played a role in this decision. They fear it could lead to more flooding and cause further damage to the environment.

To protect the lakes, the government is planning to install security cameras around important water bodies in areas like Nizampet, Chandanagar, Moinabad, Gandipet, and Mailardevpally. This will help prevent illegal activities such as land grabbing and unauthorized construction.

Additionally, the government will use geo-tagging to closely monitor the lakes and their surroundings. These measures aim to protect Hyderabad’s water bodies and ensure the safety of the city’s water resources.
