Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed officials to take all necessary steps to ensure that no drinking water problems arise in Hyderabad under any circumstances. He asked them to stay vigilant about the drinking water supply and to continuously monitor water storage levels in reservoirs.

The Chief Minister held a review meeting at the MCR HRD Bhoomi Pavilion on groundwater supply within the CURE limits, the construction of sewage treatment plants (STPs) and the use of treated water. Chief Secretary Sanjay Jaju and senior officials from the departments concerned attended the meeting.

Citing the El Niño effect and severe rainfall deficit conditions, and keeping future needs in mind, he directed that all STPs within the CURE area operate at 100% capacity. He said treated water should be used to maintain greenery at the Secretariat, the CMO, the Outer Ring Road, Metro Rail and other departmental offices. It should also be used for public parks and road cleanliness.

He made it clear that the rule to use only treated water in building construction must be strictly implemented. He said private STPs should be encouraged and treated water should be supplied to data centers. He asked senior REDCO officials to explore the use of solar power for running STPs.

The Chief Minister said STPs must follow the latest technological standards for water purification, with no compromise on water quality. He directed that a special officer be appointed at every treatment plant and that all plants be linked to the Command Control Center for continuous monitoring. He said the performance of these centers should be reviewed from time to time in Hyderabad. He also suggested a system to track tankers that supply treated water, wide public awareness about its use, and a special toll-free number for treated water. He directed officials to implement the orders on STP operations and treated water use from November 1.

Water board officials told the meeting that treated water from 26 STPs is currently distributed through Green Water Tanker vehicles. They said only transportation charges are collected from users, and the water itself is provided free of cost.
