A routine vehicle check by the Panjagutta traffic police took an unexpected turn on Tuesday. An ambulance, with its siren blaring, was stopped, only for officers to find that it was not carrying patients but two caged dogs.

The police immediately seized the vehicle and registered a case against the driver, Laxminarayana, and the owner, Abdul Kalim. Investigations revealed that the dogs were being taken from Himayathnagar to a private hospital in Madinaguda, Miyapur, for a vasectomy procedure.

This incident highlights the growing problem of ambulance siren misuse in Hyderabad. To address this issue, the Hyderabad traffic police recently launched a special drive on March 3 to stop the unauthorized use of sirens. Many people had complained that sirens were being overused, causing unnecessary panic and inconvenience in public areas.

Officials have stressed that sirens should only be used for real medical emergencies. They warned that anyone misusing them would face strict action. As part of this drive, another ambulance was also seized on Tuesday for operating without valid documents, showing the need for stricter enforcement.

To prevent further misuse, the Hyderabad traffic police plan to hold discussions with ambulance operators, drivers, and hospital management. They aim to introduce stricter rules to ensure that ambulances are used only for genuine emergencies.

With this crackdown, authorities hope to restore public trust in emergency services and put an end to the reckless misuse of sirens.
