The Telangana government has intensified efforts to tackle traffic congestion in Hyderabad by fast-tracking infrastructure development under the Hyderabad City Innovative Transformative Infrastructure (H-City) project. Construction work on multiple bridges and underpasses has already commenced across various parts of the city. The Municipal Administration Department on Wednesday issued orders approving the selection of a construction agency for three major infrastructure projects aimed at improving connectivity and reducing traffic bottlenecks in the city.
The approved projects include construction of a left-hand ramp from the existing Owaisi Flyover towards Santosh Nagar, a six-lane bridge from Hafiz Baba Nagar Junction to Balapur 100 feet road, and another six-lane bridge on the Bandlaguda-Errakunta X-road. These three infrastructure components will be executed as a single package with a construction cost of Rs. 242.72 crore. The original project estimate stood at Rs. 231.87 crore, but KNR Constructions Limited submitted their bid at a higher rate of 4.68 percent.
The tender process was announced twice, but only a single bid was received from the same company on both occasions. Following evaluation, the government approved the proposal after determining that the entire project, including asset acquisition, would require an estimated Rs. 385 crore. The Municipal Administration Department has directed the GHMC Commissioner to enter into a formal agreement with the selected agency to commence construction work immediately.
Once completed, these new bridges and the ramp are expected to significantly improve transportation connectivity from various areas in the old city to Shamshabad Airport. The infrastructure development is part of the government’s broader strategy to modernize Hyderabad’s road network and address the growing traffic challenges faced by the expanding metropolitan area. Work has already begun in several locations across the city as part of the H-City initiative.
The government has been issuing administrative permissions for bridge construction at multiple junctions and approving agency selections through the tender process. The accelerated infrastructure development reflects the administration’s commitment to transforming Hyderabad’s transportation system and providing relief to commuters who face daily traffic congestion across major corridors in the city.
