Professionals from various sectors across Telangana have come forward to express their support for the state government’s initiative to expand HYDRAA operations statewide. A delegation of experts including lawyers, environmentalists, Lions Club representatives, real estate professionals, and colony welfare association members met with HYDRAA Commissioner Sri AV Ranganath to voice their backing for the agency’s efforts in protecting water bodies and flood canals. The professionals demanded that HYDRAA’s mandate be extended across all districts of Telangana to ensure comprehensive protection of lakes and natural drainage systems throughout the state.
During their meeting with the Commissioner, the delegation highlighted the remarkable transformation of lakes under HYDRAA’s supervision. They stated that witnessing the revival of silt-trapped lakes has been highly inspiring for citizens. The professionals emphasized that if all water bodies in urban and suburban areas are developed with proper inlets and outlets following the same model, flooding can be largely controlled across the state. They noted that the greenery being developed around these lakes will provide immense benefits for future generations and contribute to environmental sustainability.
The experts pointed out significant improvements in groundwater levels in areas surrounding the rejuvenated lakes. They explained that previously, a three-meter layer of plastic waste and silt buildup prevented water from seeping into the ground. However, with complete silt removal and proper lake development undertaken by HYDRAA, groundwater recharge has increased substantially in these localities. The professionals observed that even recent light rainfall has filled the lakes, making them appear pristine and functional as intended.
Several individuals from the delegation emphasized that protecting water bodies creates a pathway for broader nature conservation efforts. They commended HYDRAA’s work in this direction and noted that ensuring parks and public utility spaces remain free from encroachments represents a significant achievement. The professionals acknowledged that such efforts require sustained commitment and proper enforcement mechanisms to be effective in the long term.
