An ice storm that hit Canada last week has left hundreds of thousands of people without power. The storm, which brought freezing rain and strong winds, caused trees and power lines to snap, leaving many communities in the dark. The hardest-hit areas were in southern Ontario, where over 300,000 customers were without electricity. In Quebec, over 100,000 customers were also affected by the storm.

The ice storm caused widespread damage to infrastructure and property, with many roads and highways closed due to fallen trees and power lines. The storm also disrupted air travel, with over 600 flights cancelled or delayed at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport. Emergency crews worked around the clock to restore power to affected areas, but the process was slow due to the extent of the damage. Many residents were left without heat or water, and some had to seek shelter in warming centers set up by local authorities.

The ice storm serves as a reminder of the importance of emergency preparedness in extreme weather conditions. Residents in affected areas were advised to stay indoors and avoid driving on icy roads. They were also encouraged to have a supply of food, water, and other essentials in case of prolonged power outages. While power has been restored to many areas, some residents may still be without electricity for several days. The storm highlights the need for communities to have contingency plans in place for emergencies, and for individuals to take steps to protect themselves and their families during extreme weather events.
