IIT Hyderabad Hosts 30th Inter IIT Staff Sports Meet with 2,000 Participants

Hyderabad, December: The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) inaugurated the 30th Inter IIT Staff Sports Meet 2025 with a vibrant opening ceremony at its Athletics Track, Sports and Cultural Complex. The event follows the successful conclusion of the 58th Inter IIT Students’ Sports Meet, which saw participation from over 2,500 student-athletes.

The Staff Sports Meet, scheduled from December 24 to 29, 2025, brings together nearly 2,000 staff participants from all 23 IITs across the country. The six-day event celebrates fitness, teamwork, and the enduring spirit of sportsmanship among professionals.

The opening ceremony featured a grand march past by staff contingents from all participating IITs. The proceedings included flag hoisting, ignition of a mashal (torch), oath-taking, and cultural performances that reflected unity and institutional pride.

Shri Aditya Mehta, renowned para-athlete and sports advocate, served as the Chief Guest and formally declared the meet open. Addressing the gathering, he said, “Everything is possible with teamwork and training. I train every day and I suggest you also. Sport has given me a different chapter of my life.”

The Guest of Honour, Shri Arshad Shaik, international para-cyclist, remarked that “Sports has the power to empower you. It gives you the strength to fight the challenges of life. So never give up and keep fighting to the life challenges and play some sport.”

Shri B. V. R. Mohan Reddy, Chairman of the Board of Governors at IIT Hyderabad, encouraged staff members to actively engage in sports as a means of maintaining physical well-being and collective spirit within institutions.

Prof. B. S. Murty, Director of IIT Hyderabad, emphasized the importance of sports in institutional culture. “The Inter IIT Staff Sports Meet is a powerful reminder that the values we associate with sport—discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and ethical conduct—remain relevant throughout our professional lives,” he said.

Mr. Paritosh Pankaj, SP of Sangareddy, also attended the ceremony and motivated participants, stating that sports united everyone despite their differences.

The meet will feature competitions across various sporting disciplines, including athletics, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis. Staff members will compete in a spirit of friendly rivalry and mutual respect throughout the week.

Established in 2008, IIT Hyderabad is known for its academic innovation and world-class infrastructure. Its Sports and Cultural Complex provides state-of-the-art facilities ideal for hosting large-scale national sporting events.
