Hyderabad Water Board Cracks Down on Illegal Sewerage Connection

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) took action on Saturday against a restaurant in Mehdipatnam for illegally establishing a sewerage connection without the necessary permissions. The restaurant’s illegal connection was removed by the authorities.

Officials revealed that the restaurant, located under the jurisdiction of Water Board O&M Division-3, had connected to a 250 mm diameter sewerage pipeline without approval. This caused excessive sewage discharge, leading to frequent overflows on the main road, creating inconvenience for the public.

Ashok Reddy, Managing Director of HMWSSB, urged residents and business owners to regularize any illegal drainage or sewerage connections. He also emphasized that establishments such as hospitals, hotels, bakeries, malls, and other commercial or multi-storey buildings must install silt chambers to prevent blockages and sewage overflow.

The Water Board warned that criminal cases would be filed against individuals or businesses found illegally tapping into drinking water or sewerage pipelines. Citizens are encouraged to report any illegal water or sewerage connections by contacting the Water Board’s vigilance team at 9989998100 or 9989987135.
