The Indian government has asked Canada to recall about 40 diplomats from India by October 10. The reason for this request has not been officially announced yet. Currently, Canada has 62 diplomats in India, but India wants to reduce that number by 41.

The strained relationship between India and Canada worsened when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau suggested that the Indian government might be involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a designated terrorist in India. Nijjar was shot outside a Gurdwara in Canada on June 18. However, India denied these allegations and called them baseless.

India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, stated that the issue between India and Canada has been ongoing for some years due to Canada’s leniency on terrorism, extremism, and violence. He mentioned that India is willing to review any specific information provided by Canada regarding the matter.

The United States has also raised this issue during discussions with India’s External Affairs Minister. They have urged India to cooperate with Canada’s investigation into Nijjar’s death. The outcome of India’s response remains uncertain as the diplomatic tensions between India and Canada continue.
