Khammam farmers to receive aid package of Rs. 25 crore for crop damage

The government of Telangana in India has given Rs 25.06 crore to help farmers whose crops were damaged by unseasonal rains in March. This is part of a larger compensation package of Rs 151.64 crore to cover crop losses across 26 districts, affecting 1.51 lakh acres of land. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao visited some of the affected areas and announced a relief package of Rs 10,000 per acre for farmers, including tenant farmers. In Khammam, maize, paddy and other crops were damaged across 23,632.17 acres of land, affecting around 18,258 farmers. In Kothagudem district, crops were damaged across 143.10 acres of land, affecting 1,978 farmers. The relief package will be credited to farmers’ accounts within about 10 days.
