Kishan to hold auction for 60 coal blocks in city starting tomorrow

The Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy will launch the next tranche of coal blocks auction in Hyderabad on June 21. Two blocks from Telangana will be part of the auction, with one being non-coking and the other fully explored. This initiative is part of a 100-day mission to increase domestic coal production and ensure energy security.

The 10th round of commercial coal-mining auctions will be attended by Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, and Secretary, Ministry of Coal Amrit Lal Meena. The auction will include 60 coal blocks from different states like Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, MP, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, and West Bengal.

The launch of the auction marks a significant step towards achieving self-reliance in the coal sector. The government aims to unlock coal reserves to drive economic growth while ensuring sustainable mining practices. A total of 60 coal mines will be offered in this round, with no restrictions on sale or utilization.

The eligibility criteria have been eliminated to encourage participation and ensure transparency. The National Coal Index will be used for pricing to establish fair market mechanisms. The ministry has introduced a single window clearance system portal to streamline the process for obtaining clearances for operationalizing mines.

The upcoming commercial coal mine auction is expected to boost economic growth, create job opportunities, enhance energy security, and support sustainable development.
