KL Deemed to be University, also known as Koneru Lakshmaiah Education Foundation (KLEF), has received the prestigious Gold Award for Excellence in Academia in Green Energy and Energy Efficiency. The honor was presented at the 6th Green Urja & Energy Efficiency Awards organized by the Indian Chambers of Commerce (ICC) in partnership with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Deloitte. The award ceremony took place during the 14th Green Energy Summit titled “Dawn of a New Era” in New Delhi. Dr. K Subbarao, Registrar of KLEF, accepted the award on behalf of the university on February 6, 2026.
The recognition highlights the university’s comprehensive approach to sustainability through green energy education, research, and campus operations. KLEF has implemented significant renewable energy infrastructure including 3.854 MWp of solar and wind installations, which now meets nearly 48% of the institution’s total energy demand. The campus features large-scale LED and BLDC retrofits, smart lighting systems, energy-efficient HVAC infrastructure, green buildings, and real-time energy monitoring systems. These initiatives have resulted in substantial energy savings and measurable environmental benefits for the institution.
Er. Koneru Lakshman Havish, Vice President of KL Deemed to be University, emphasized that sustainability represents a shared responsibility integrated into education, research, and institutional practice. He stated that the recognition affirms the university’s commitment to green energy, energy efficiency, and climate-conscious development. The award reflects the collaborative efforts of the university’s leadership, faculty, researchers, students, and staff, particularly the Department of Planning and Development, in embedding sustainability throughout academic and operational frameworks.
The university has developed a comprehensive academic portfolio with undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs focused on energy, environment, and climate disciplines. KLEF’s research initiatives receive funding from prominent national and international agencies including DST, AICTE, UGC, SERB, ISRO, and ICSSR. Over the past three years, the institution has earned multiple recognitions including the GRIHA 5-Star Green Building Certification, State Energy Conservation Awards (Gold), CII Energy Efficient Unit recognition, All-India Smart Campus Award, and the TERI Water Sustainability Award.
