The high-level committee on “one nation one election” held its first meeting on Saturday. The committee, led by former President Ramnath Kovind, has decided to consult with various stakeholders such as political parties and the Law Commission on the issue of synchronized polls in the country. They will invite recognized national parties, parties with state governments, parties with representatives in Parliament, and other recognized state parties to provide suggestions and viewpoints on simultaneous elections. The Law Commission will also be invited for their input. Lawyer Harish Salve joined the meeting virtually, while Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was absent. Home Minister Amit Shah, Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal, and other prominent figures attended the meeting.
