KT Rama Rao, the BRS working president, accused the Congress of greedily seizing Telangana’s lands on Wednesday. He criticized Congress leaders for taking lands from farmers in Pharma City, which has since been canceled.
Rao targeted Congress leaders for forcibly registering residential plots in their names. These plots were meant as compensation for displaced farmers in Maheshwaram and Ibrahimpatnam in Rangareddy district. He accused them of shamelessly exploiting farmers who sacrificed their land for state development.
The BRS leader reminded everyone that Congress had promised to cancel Pharma City and return lands to the farmers, a promise they have ignored. Farmers had willingly given their land to support former CM KCR’s vision of a Green Pharma City spanning 19,400 acres. In compensation, the BRS government offered Rs 16.5 lakh per acre for patta land and Rs 8.5 lakh per acre for assigned land. Additionally, 1,400 acres in Mirkhanpet of Kandukur mandal were allocated for residential plots. A layout over 560 acres was developed, offering 121 sq. yards of residential plot for each acre surrendered.
The land distribution was paused due to the Assembly elections. Now, KTR accused the Revanth-led Congress government of deliberately delaying land handovers for 18 months to exploit them. He highlighted that a 330-foot-wide greenfield road was planned through this layout, adding to farmers’ woes. Congress leaders were accused of abusing their power to exploit Telangana’s people, intimidating farmers, and buying plots at very low prices.
While the market rate is Rs 30,000 per sq. yard, Congress leaders are allegedly buying plots for just Rs 4,000 to Rs 5,000 per sq. yard through coercion. KTR condemned Revanth Reddy for not fulfilling his promise to return the land and demanded the state government intervene. He urged them to cancel illegal registrations by Congress leaders and ensure lands are rightfully given back to farmers.
