Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao raised serious concerns on Sunday about increasing government suppression in Telangana. He asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, who often speaks about democracy, to respond to the situation.
KTR said that police actions and repression had worsened in the state. He claimed that people who speak out against the government are being silenced, including journalists. He was upset that even reporters covering protests against the government were being arrested without reason.
He strongly criticized the police for arresting students and journalists protesting at Hyderabad Central University. The protest was against the auction of hundreds of acres of green university land.
KTR said that freedom of the press and the right to speak freely were under threat in Telangana. He questioned why Rahul Gandhi, who often talks about press freedom and democracy, was not speaking out about what is happening in a state ruled by his own party.
He urged Rahul Gandhi to stop using double standards and to make sure the Congress government in Telangana follows true democratic values. KTR also demanded the immediate release of all the students and journalists who were arrested.
