Lamakaan in Banjara Hills has been a cultural hub in Hyderabad for sixteen years. This simple venue has become a place where people gather to enjoy chai and samosas while engaging in poetry, films, theater, and book discussions. It is known for being open to all, with no strict rules, welcoming both students and seasoned artists alike. In a city where many cultural spaces are becoming commercial, Lamakaan stands out for its accessibility and has become a staple in the community.

As Lamakaan celebrates its 16th anniversary, it honors this inclusive spirit with a special program. The celebration includes a variety of events like poetry, theater, film, and music that highlight the venue’s diverse offerings over the years.

On Thursday, February 5, the anniversary starts with a reading at 7:30 pm by the renowned actor Naseeruddin Shah. He will present Chacha Chakkan ne Khat Likha, a satirical piece by Imtiyaz Ali Taj.

On Friday, February 6, the focus shifts to The Art of Urdu Poetry and Poetics with a session by Mir Ali Husain at 6 pm. This conversation explores the history and current relevance of Urdu poetry. Later, at 8 pm, Santhimmi’s Pakshi Purana by Dr. Du Saraswati will be performed, offering a Dalit woman’s perspective on epics and social issues.
