Ashok Reddy, Managing Director of Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), conducted a comprehensive inspection of multiple ongoing infrastructure projects on Wednesday. The visit covered critical water supply schemes including Godavari Phase 2 and 3, the Amrut 2.0 Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), and Neopolis water supply projects.

The inspection tour began at Khanapur, where construction of a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) is underway as part of the Godavari 2 and 3 projects. The Managing Director reviewed the progress of construction works and assessed the project timeline with officials on site.

At the Neopolis project location, Ashok Reddy held detailed discussions with senior HMDA (Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority) officials regarding land allotment for essential infrastructure. The discussions focused on securing land for a balancing reservoir, pumping station, and water treatment plant to ensure comprehensive drinking water supply to the Neopolis area. He emphasized that land allotment decisions should consider future water supply requirements for the growing population.

The Managing Director instructed HMDA officials to submit detailed information about existing drinking water pipelines and sewerage lines in the Neopolis area to the Water Board. This includes technical specifications and elevation levels to ensure proper coordination between both agencies. The Water Board is currently constructing two reservoirs with a capacity of 2.5 million liters each to serve the area.

Considering the high land costs in Neopolis, Ashok Reddy proposed an innovative solution for reservoir construction. He suggested building the two reservoirs as a two-floor structure, which would optimize land use and preserve vacant space for future infrastructure needs. Officials were directed to conduct a technical feasibility study and explore the possibilities of implementing this vertical construction approach.

The inspection continued at Janwada, where a 4 MLD (Million Liters per Day) capacity STP is being constructed near Bulkapur Nala. The Water Board has undertaken construction of four STPs in the region to prevent sewage contamination from entering the twin reservoirs. The Managing Director examined the progress of the Primary Treatment Unit (PTU) construction and inquired about the catchment areas that would be served by this facility.

Ashok Reddy directed officials to develop a comprehensive plan for constructing trunk mains that would transport sewage from surrounding villages to the STP. He stressed the importance of coordination with HMDA, Irrigation Department, and HYDRA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency) officials to ensure seamless implementation of the sewerage network.

The inspection program was attended by HMDA Metropolitan Joint Commissioner (Sub-Urban) Upendra Reddy, HMWSSB Project Director T.V. Sridhar, General Managers from both departments, senior HMDA officials, representatives from construction agencies, and site engineers who are overseeing the various projects.
