Hyderabad is set to witness the construction of a massive new international cricket stadium that could surpass the capacity of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The ambitious project is planned as part of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s Future City development, with the foundation stone expected to be laid in December 2026.

The proposed stadium is being designed with a seating capacity exceeding 1.32 lakh, which would potentially make it one of the largest cricket venues in the world. The facility is envisioned to match the standards of iconic international venues such as Lord’s in England and leading cricket stadiums in Australia, positioning it as a global sporting landmark.

The project will follow a collaborative model between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Telangana government. Under the proposed arrangement, the BCCI will fund the construction and maintenance of the stadium, while the Telangana government will provide the necessary land. Joint development and management structures are currently being worked out between both parties.

The stadium location within Future City has been strategically chosen for its connectivity advantages. The site offers proximity to the Outer Ring Road (ORR), the proposed Regional Ring Road (RRR), Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, and the planned Metro Rail extension. These infrastructure links are expected to provide excellent accessibility for cricket fans traveling to the venue.

The cricket stadium will serve as a cornerstone of Future City’s Sports City initiative, which forms part of the broader vision for tourism development and the Net-Zero City concept. The project aims to strengthen Hyderabad’s position as a premier destination for international sporting events and enhance its reputation on the global sports map.

The development represents a significant investment in sports infrastructure for Telangana, aligning with the state government’s vision to create world-class facilities. The stadium is expected to host major international cricket matches and tournaments, contributing to the economic and cultural development of the region while establishing Hyderabad as a key venue in the global cricket calendar.
