The Telangana power distribution authorities have issued updated service line charges for Low Tension (LT) electricity connections across various consumer categories. The revised charges apply to domestic users, commercial establishments, industries, agricultural consumers, and electric vehicle charging stations, based on the sanctioned load in kilowatts (kW).
Service line charges are one-time amounts collected while providing a new electricity connection or enhancing the contracted load. These charges cover the cost of extending power lines and related infrastructure to the consumer’s premises.
Domestic Consumers (LT-I)
For domestic households, the charges remain relatively moderate for lower loads but increase sharply as the contracted load rises. Homes with a load of up to 1 kW will pay ₹500. For loads between 1 kW and 5 kW, consumers must pay ₹500 plus ₹600 per additional kW.
Households opting for higher loads between 5 kW and 20 kW will be charged ₹2,900 plus ₹1,500 per kW. For loads above 20 kW, the service line charge is fixed at ₹10,000 per kW or part thereof, as per the applicable Retail Supply Tariff Order.
Commercial and Non-Domestic Connections (LT-II, LT-VI, LT-VII)
Commercial users, including shops, offices, street lighting, and public water supply schemes, will pay ₹1,000 for loads up to 1 kW. For loads up to 5 kW, the charge is ₹1,000 plus ₹1,200 per kW.
For larger establishments with loads between 5 kW and 20 kW, the charge rises to ₹5,800 plus ₹2,000 per kW. Loads above 20 kW will attract ₹10,000 per kW. In the case of apartments and commercial complexes, the combined contracted load will be considered for levying charges.
Industries and Cottage Industries
Industrial connections under LT-III will be charged ₹4,000 per kW for loads up to 20 kW. For higher loads, the service line charge is fixed at ₹10,000 per kW.
Cottage industries under LT-IV will pay ₹1,000 per kW or part thereof, up to the maximum limits defined in the Retail Supply Tariff Order.
Agriculture and EV Charging Stations
Agricultural connections (LT-V) will also attract a service line charge of ₹1,000 per kW, with a clear provision that no Operation and Maintenance (O&M) charges will be collected from farmers.
For electric vehicle charging stations (LT-IX), the charge is ₹1,000 for loads up to 1 kW. For loads up to 20 kW, the charge is ₹1,000 plus ₹1,200 per kW, while higher loads will attract ₹8,000 per kW.
Impact on Consumers
Power officials say the revised structure is aimed at recovering infrastructure costs while ensuring clarity for different consumer categories. For households and small businesses, lower slabs remain affordable, but higher loads will require careful planning due to the steep increase in charges.
Consumers planning new electricity connections or load enhancements are advised to check the applicable slab carefully before applying, as service line charges form a significant part of the initial cost.
