Malakpet Assembly constituency in Hyderabad is known for its interesting political history. It is divided into Old Malakpet and New Malakpet and is home to the famous TV tower built by Teegala Sree Ramulu. The constituency has over 2.61 lakh voters and comprises several neighborhoods, including Malakpet, Saidabad, Chanchalguda, Azampura, Moosarambagh, Gaddiannaram, and Chaderghat.

In past elections, the TDP and AIMIM have been the main opponents in the area. AIMIM’s Ahmed Bin Abdullah Balala won the seat consecutively thrice from 2009 and again in 2014 with 68,391 votes. However, TDP and BJP have been strong opponents in recent years. In 2018, Balala won with 53,281 votes, followed by TDP’s Mohammed Muzaffar Ali Khan with 29,769 votes and BJP’s Ale Jeetendra with 20,880 votes.

AIMIM hopes to win once again in Malakpet, but they recognize that it will be a tough fight against their opponents. The MIM is reportedly more focused on achieving victories from Jubilee Hills and Rajendranagar constituencies this time around. Malakpet falls under circle 6 of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, which includes seven wards.

The Hyderabad Race Club was shifted to Malakpet in 1886 from Moula Ali, and Asaf Jah VI built the Mahbub Mansion near the Race Course. Balala is expected to receive the ticket once again, but there is still lobbying for seats in the TDP and BJP.
