Mahabubnagar, Telangana – In a refreshing twist to traditional beauty pageants, the Telangana government showcased the Miss World event with a unique cultural and ecological touch. Instead of glitzy runways, contestants walked through places rich in history and nature, offering a deeper vision of beauty.
One of the standout experiences took place at Pillalamarri, a lush green site in Mahabubnagar. It’s home to a massive 800-year-old banyan tree, a symbol of enduring natural beauty. Here, the participants experienced a moment of connection—with the earth, with culture, and with heritage.
“This isn’t just about looks,” said Mamidi Hari Krishna, Director of the Department of Languages and Culture. “We want the world to see beauty as something rooted in tradition and harmony with nature.”
The state aimed to promote Telangana not just as a tourist spot, but as a center of cultural richness and ecological heritage. The Department of Tourism and Culture designed a special journey for the Miss World participants, taking them beyond luxury hotels to real cultural treasures.
They explored sacred sites like the Yadadri Temple, admired the ancient architecture of the Ramappa Temple—a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and learned about the famous Pochampally textiles. At each stop, they witnessed how tradition lives on through community and craftsmanship.
At Pillalamarri, contestants met local artisans and saw firsthand the beauty of Narayanpet and Gadwal handlooms, traditional pottery, and handmade crafts. These works, created by rural artisans and self-help groups, were displayed in a natural setting, highlighting the deep ties between creativity and environment.
“We’re setting a new example,” said Hari Krishna. “This is not about skin-deep beauty or western glam. In Telangana, we celebrate beauty in its full form—dressed in tradition, surrounded by art, and in tune with nature.”
This approach reflects a new kind of cultural diplomacy. Telangana is using the global spotlight of Miss World to share India’s values, heritage, and environmental respect. It’s a powerful way to shape how the world sees the region—not only as a destination but as a guardian of living traditions.
